2. What is Litho Web’s privacy and security policy?

Any information collect for order processing or from
inquiries is for internal use only and never shared with
anyone outside of our company. Your information is only
used to contact and respond to your request.

 

3. Does Litho Web accept electronic files?

Yes, via the Internet or to our FTP Site at files@lithoweb.ca.

 

4. Can I send you documents created in MS Word
or PowerPoint?

Yes! We can use documents created in Word or PowerPoint that contain photos, clip-art, or other colour images.

 

5. What other file formats can you take?

We can take any Mac or PC version of Quark, Illustrator, Photoshop, Freehand, Publisher, any file output as a PDF

 

6. What types of storage media do you accept?

We can take your files on a CD, DVD or Zip disk.

 

7. Is there an extra charge for bleeds?

Our price quote will take bleed requirements into
consideration and be included in price provided.

 

8. How do I order multiple pieces?

To keep things simple, please place a separate order
for each different printed piece you want produced.

 

9. What kind of paper will my job be printed on?

We have numerous types of paper available at our
disposal. The best paper for the specific application will
be recommended.

 

10. Is there a discount if I re-order my job?

No, Typically there is a discount if you pay net 10 days.

 

11. How long does it take to get a proof?

Our standard service is quite fast. Once you have placed
your order, you should get a proof within one to two
business days after we receive your electronic files.

 

12. Will I always receive exactly the quantity I order?

The printing industry trade standards allow for a percentage
of overages and underages of up to 5%. However, Litho web always ships the exact quantity. On occasion we may ship
you slightly more pieces than you ordered, free of charge.

 

13. What if I want to change something on my order after I've placed it or approved the proof?

Litho Web will accept changes. However a "paper trail"
for all changes made after your initial order is required.
You may make changes to such things as quantity,
shipping method, or shipping address etc. Please note that some changes cannot be made after certain stages in the production process without incurring additional charges.
It is best to call us immediately if you need a change.

 

14. What is an Accordion Fold?

A type of paper folding in which each fold runs in the
opposite direction to the previous fold creating a pleated
or accordion affect.

 

15. What is meant by Antique Finish?

Paper with a rough, sized surface used for book and
cover stock.

 

16. What is an Art-Lined Envelope?

An envelope with a pattern printed inside, usually for security purposes..

 

17. What is the definition of Artwork?

All illustrated material, ornamentation, photos and charts
etc. that is prepared for reproduction.

 

18. What are Author's Alterations (AA's)?

Changes made after composition stage where customer is responsible for additional charges.

 

19. What is Back To Back Printing?

Print applied to both sides of a sheet of paper.

 

20. What is meant by Bleeds?

Extra ink area that crosses trim line, used to allow for
variations that occur when the reproduction is trimmed
or die-cut.

 

21. What is Binding?

Various methods of securing folded sections together and
or fastening them to a cover, to form single copies of a book.

 

22. What does Camera Ready imply?

A term given to any copy, artwork etc., that is prepared for photographic reproduction.

 

23. What is Colour Separation?

The processes of separating the primary Colour components
for printing.

 

24. What is Die Cutting?

A method of using sharp steel ruled stamps or rollers to
cut various shapes i.e. labels, boxes, image shapes, either post press or in line. The process of cutting paper in a shape
or design by the use of a wooden die or block in which are positioned steel rules in the shape of the desired pattern.

 

25. What is a Digital Proof?

Colour separation data is digitally stored and then exposed
to colour photographic paper creating a picture of the final product before it is actually printed.

 

26. What is a Watermark?

A translucent logo that is embossed during the papermaking process while the paper slurry is on the dandy roll.
Reference, dandy roll.

 

27. What is a Web Press?

Cylinder printing machine in which the paper is fed from
a continuous reel, as opposed to sheet fed.

 

28. What is Wire Stitching Or Stapling?

To fasten together sheets, signatures, or sections with
wire staples. 3 methods… saddle stitching, side stitching,
and stabbing.

 

29. What is Electronic Composition?

A process of generating a prepress proof in which paper
is electronically exposed to the colour separation negatives;
the paper is passed through the electrically charged
pigmented toners, which adhere electro statically, resulting
in the finished proof.

 

30. What is Embossing?

To raise in relief a design or letters already printed on
card stock or heavy paper by an uninked block or die.
In rubber and plastic plate making the process is usually
done by heat.

 

31. What is a Fan Fold?

Paper folding that emulates an accordion or fan, the folds
being alternating and parallel.

 

32. What is meant by Ghosting?

Image which appears as a lighter area on a subsequent
print due to local blanket depressions from previous image areas on a letterpress rotary machine as well as on an
offset press.

 

33. What are Hickies?

Imperfections in presswork due to dirt on press,
trapping errors, etc.

 

34. What is Offset Lithography?

Indirect printing method in which the inked image on the
press-plate is first printed onto a rubber blanket, then in
turn offsets the inked impression on to the sheet of paper.

 

35. What is a Perfecting Press?

A printing press that prints on both sides of the page in a
single pass.

 

36. What is Process Printing?

Printing from two or more half tones to produce intermediate colors and shades.

 

37. What are Register Marks?

The arrangement of two or more images in exact alignment with each other.

 

38. What is Roll To Roll?

A web press printing process where the roll of paper is
printed and stored on a roll to be shipped.

 

39. What is Saddle Stitching?

Stitching where the wire staples pass through the spine
from the outside and are clinched in the center. Only used
with folded sections, either single sections or two or more sections inset to form a single section.

 

40. What is Safety Paper?

A paper that shows sign of erasure so that it cannot be
